The apartments

Four houses, one story from 1371.

In the spring of 1371, in these meadows of A Ulloa by the river Pambre, the last battle of the first Fernandine War was fought. Fernando de Castro, leading the Galician nobility loyal to King Peter I and allied with Portugal, was defeated by the troops of Henry II of Castile. That day Galicia changed course; he later died in exile in Bayonne, and his tomb reads «All the loyalty of Spain».

Today the fields are quiet and the Camino passes 160 metres away. Each apartment bears a name from that story: a small tribute to those who passed this way long before you.

Our story

We came to see it. We stayed.

We were offered this place and came up to see it in May 2024. We both felt something hard to explain: Porto de Bois has an enormous energy. Three weeks later we came back, closed the chapter on our old life, and here we are.

Not long ago we discovered that history had linked us to this place from afar. Beatriz, daughter of Peter I of Portugal and Inês de Castro, lived in Salamanca, very close to our home, between the castles of Ledesma and San Felices de los Gallegos. Who knows what binds us to them and to this place.

Life has handed us a few lemons, but here we are, full of hope… and making gin and tonics. We look forward to welcoming you.
